London town

We touched down at the bustling Heathrow Airport on Saturday afternoon and had a chauffer service pick us up and take us to our hotel, the Club Quarters St Paul's, located next door to St Paul’s Cathedral in London’s business district. (tip: The great thing about being in the business district over the weekend is that it’s not only close to Pete’s apartment and quiet, but hotels are a lot cheaper as the business travellers return home for the weekend).

Wendy had booked a table at the Italian restaurant, Strada, located across the road from the hotel, so we sat down for dinner and a catch up. Having stepped off the plane sick, I didn’t get to sample London’s Italian fare, but from what I heard, it was decent.

Sunday morning rolled around for us at about 5am as we were a bit jet lagged, but we had a packed day of sightseeing. Mum and Aunty Kew hopped on a red double-decker bus to tour the sights of London city while Pete took me to his favourite brunch spot, Smiths, located in what looks like an empty industrial part of town on the weekends. We then visited my favourite art gallery, the Tate Modern, a mere 5 minute walk away from our hotel and Pete’s place.

We finished off a few hours of perusing the gallery with a visit to the shop which has the longest wall of art and design books I have ever seen!

We then spent the rest of the day walking around the shopping districts of London city. A couple of highlights for me: spotting the 300 year old Twinning tea shop, Interbrand’s London office, one of the many Deloitte offices (where Pete works), Zara (still loving the Spanish clothing chain), Zara Home (heaven!), Selfridges (endless concessions stores of high-end brands).
