With love from Malta: Sliema, Valletta and Gozo

Some photos from our March weekend break with Mel and Richy in Malta (sorry it has taken so long.... spare time has become a luxury these days!).

Sliema, where we stayed in Malta

Valletta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
It's forts defended the Islands of Malta from invasion
during the 16th century Great Siege

The streets of Valletta with Baroque architecture

Fort St Elmo which spreads from the Grand Harbour (pictured) to...

Marsamextt Harbour on the other side

Boom Defence [sic] at Fort Saint Elmo

Arriving in Gozo, the island off the mainland Malta

Views across countryside Gozo

Gozo salt pans which date back to the Romans.
Thousands of years old and still a technology used today!

Ggantija Temples, which are over 5500 years old!
No one knows how the stones were brought to the middle of the island.
The myth goes that it was giants, hence the name.

St Julians Bay on mainland Malta

Enjoying Maltese food. Their national dish is rabbit.

A sad goodbye to modest little Malta.
So small but so full of history
.
We hope to be back someday...
